- Large rooflights craned into position
- Lead roof covering and associated flashings
- New natural slate roof
- External landscaping
Structural works
A cranked beam was installed to form the new rear opening and carry the extension roof, allowing a fully glazed gable without intermediate structure. Steel was set out and installed to the engineer’s design, with propping and sequencing agreed in advance of the existing structure being opened up.
Specialist lifting
The rooflights were too large to be handled by hand and were craned into position over the completed structure. A lift plan, road permissions and an exclusion zone were arranged in advance, and the lift completed inside a single possession so that the street was released the same day.
Building envelope
The extension roof combines lead flat roofing with natural slate, dressed around the new rooflight upstands. Brickwork was matched to the existing house in bond and mortar colour, and external landscaping completed the works.
Challenges & delivery
A two-month programme
Short programmes leave no slack. Long-lead items — glazing, rooflights, the crane slot — were procured and surveyed before the structure was opened, so that each trade could follow directly on from the last.
