- Limewash paint finishes
Structural works
The extension was formed with new structure to the rear of the house and rooflights set into the new roof, opening the kitchen area to the garden. Where the new roof meets the old wall it is carried down in a single curved plane, and the rooflight is set deep into it so that daylight falls the full height of the galley kitchen.
Materials and finishes
Limewash paintwork and stone tiling give the space its character. Both are finishes that show every deviation in the substrate, so the plastering and screeding beneath them were set out and checked before the finishes were applied. The same stone runs through the kitchen, the dining area and the utility room.
Glazing
Architectural aluminium doors and windows were surveyed from the completed structural openings and installed as a single package with the external works. A full-height slot window beside the kitchen frames the garden on the axis of the galley.
Utility and cloakroom
The utility room and cloakroom are finished in one deep colour across walls, ceiling and joinery, so the washer and dryer, the storage and the bench read as a single fitted room rather than a service space.
